Street Photography Edinburgh_07

Well. This is not so much street photography. It's isolation photography. I woke up and looked around and thought could I take photo's of my small flat and in some way document a day in isolation? One thing I did not want to do is arrange or set up these photos. I wanted to shoot things as they were. I didn't want them to be pretty Instagram pictures, but a simple and mundane look into what a person might do during the day in the home. A while back I used Instagram for a few weeks and then I deleted it. What I came across in this virtual space was a slew of invented realities. This is not going to be a rant against social media. I use it. I spend too much time using it. However the images put forth by a vast amount of people on platforms like Instagram are simply false inventions of life. I find a lot of them totally depressing to look at. When we over consume this stuff it can make us feel less and less worthy I believe. But we are looking at illusions. Why are we so intent on building these narratives about ourselves? Even here, within this space I am building a narrative about myself. i'm aware of this. I won't claim to be putting out every detail here but the shots I'll include, I hope, will purvey some kind of honesty. Stay safe. Stay inside.

The only thing missing from that sequence of photographs is a sound track. It's like a small intimate story. From what you say about the Coronavirus Lockdown, you may be doing more of these. Keep well.
