Today I went out to find one of my favourite walkways in Edinburgh almost completely shut down. Here's a little tribute to its many colours. Leith Walk I LOVE YOU...💛
Note : I have been isolating but I walk each day to keep sane and on the walks I bring a camera. This involves staying clear of people and if I see anyone, distancing myself. I am taking COVID seriously.

If I were a travel writer I would probably say something like 'on the outskirts of the city, away from the streaming bustle of tourists and tartan lies a quaint, vibrant little nest of....blah blah di blah...
Leith Walk is special though. I like to stroll down it for no real reason sometimes. It makes me feel calm and I've had some nice chats with some of the shop owners. A woman once sold me a silver cross chain from a nunnery in the highlands after we'd had a conversation in her little shop. It was in the afternoon. We talked about ageing, about death, about love and she told me she had been to the west coast of Ireland. When I put the chain on I realised it looked like an inverted cross. "What's that about?' I asked. She told me, I think her name was Gladys, that the nuns would lift the cross in front of their noses and stare at it when in prayer, thus returning it to its upright position.
Unfortunately the walk is suffering from the ravaging effects of developers. Local businesses are slowly shutting down but there are still many places that are surviving and they keep their shops looking wonderful. There's a couple of good pubs along there too. But with me being dry as a bone at the moment I simply look into the windows and give a nod 'Soon my friend...I'll see you soon'.
